Upside-down Tree? Yay or Nay?

I'm sorry but can someone please explain this to me? Apparently after some research this is definitely not a new trend, but I saw this and burst out laughing. I'm all for quirky but this?? Actually now that I think about it there is a huge benefit to keeping a tree upside-down to preserve precious floor space in a NYC apartment...
